| This course is designed to provide the student with an understanding of the purpose of the field training program. This course will focus on the fundamentals of basic training in patrol concepts and procedures. 32 hours lecture and 8 hours laboratory. | ||||

STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES Upon successful completion of the course, students should be able to: |

1. Analyze the training and development of future trainees. 2. Identify the five functions of the field training officer: supervisor, evaluator, role model, counselor, trainer. 3. Define special training issues: liability issues, civil liabilities, employee due process rights. 4. Demonstrate appropriate coaching techniques to trainees during a practical exercise. |

METHODS OF INSTRUCTION Methods of instruction used to achieve student learning outcomes may include, but are not limited to: |

|
• Utilizing problem solving activities that allow for demonstrating required skills and knowledge of the role of a field training officer, analyzing the training and development of future trainees, defining special training issues, and using appropriate coaching techniques. |
||||
|
METHODS OF EVALUATION Students will be evaluated for progress in and/or mastery of learning outcomes by methods of evaluation which may include, but are not limited to: |
||||
|
• Computational and writing assignments, including written homework and reading case studies, to measure student learning progress on the fundamentals of basic training in patrol concepts and procedures, administration of field training, liability issues, and employee due process rights. |
