70 Introduction to Organization Development

This is a study of organization-wide, planned efforts to increase organizational effectiveness using planned interventions by managers. Multiple intervention techniques, such as diagnostic activities, team building, process consulting, coaching & goal setting are covered. 54 hours lecture.

2. Select and effectively use at least two organization development techniques.
3. Assess and analyze effectiveness of an organization development intervention.

5. Evaluate organization structural interventions for effectiveness.

METHODS OF INSTRUCTION
Methods of instruction used to achieve student learning outcomes may include, but are not limited to:
|
- Presentation of lectures and discussions on methods of assessing organizational effectiveness and selecting appropriate organization development interventions
- Cooperative/collaborative learning tasks and activities such as case study analysis and exercises designed to prepare students to apply appropriate interventions and techniques to selected businesses and situations.
- Create small group activities to provide simulated organizational cultures and apply team building and other appropriate OD techniques.
- Develop and assign web-enhanced/online/distance learning tasks to enhance understanding and application of OD principles in the context of business performance through discussion board postings, and other formats to allow students to express positions regarding assigned topics.
- Instruction may take the form of online, hybrid, distance learning formats.

METHODS OF EVALUATION
Students will be evaluated for progress in and/or mastery of learning outcomes by methods of evaluation which may include, but are not limited to:
|
- The writing of a research paper and oral presentation of findings regarding selection of and use of appropriate organization development interventions and techniques.
- Individual and group assignments designed to analyze organizational effectiveness and selection of OD interventions and techniques.
- Class discussion designed to evaluate students’ understanding of the process of organization development and selection of specific interventions or techniques.
- Quizzes and exams to assess students’ ability to recognize and articulate appropriate and effective OD principles.
- Participation in discussions as required by instructor to ensure progress in mastering the course content and critical evaluation of differing perspectives.
