A beginning focus for managing resources at the international level. Case studies are used to examine what a manager would need to know to function as effectively as possible in other cultures. 54 hours lecture.

ADVISORY ENTRY SKILLS
Before entering the course, students will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate an understanding of the nature of business

  2. Explain the basic concepts of business and the impact they have on the organization and its competitiveness

  3. Demonstrate an understanding of the basic concepts of management

STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES
Upon successful completion of the course, students should be able to:

1.   Describe the dynamics of international management environment,
      including political, legal, economical, social/cultural, and
      competitive aspects of international business.

2.   Analyze the cultural values with the goal of developing cross-
      cultural awareness and sensitivity necessary in international 
      business.

3.   Examine various cultural and business practices to effectively
      manage a diverse workforce in an international business setting.

METHODS OF INSTRUCTION
Methods of instruction used to achieve student learning outcomes may include, but are not limited to:

  • Presentation of lectures and discussions on the dynamics of the international management environment, in order for students to understand how political, legal, economical, social/cultural, and competitive aspects of international business affect the management of international business
  • Cooperative/collaborative learning tasks and activities designed to assist students in better understanding of the cultural values with the goal of developing cross-cultural awareness and sensitivity necessary in international business
  • Case studies involving typical various cultural and business practices, in order for students to understand how to effectively manage a diverse workforce in an international business setting
  • Instruction may take the form of online, hybrid, TV or other distance learning format
 
METHODS OF EVALUATION
Students will be evaluated for progress in and/or mastery of learning outcomes by methods of evaluation which may include, but are not limited to:

  • The writing of case study analyses demonstrating an understanding of various cultural and business practices to effectively manage a diverse workforce in an international business setting
  • Individual and group assignments designed to demonstrate successful understanding of the dynamics of the international management environment, and how legal, economical, social/cultural, and competitive aspects of international business affect management of international business
  • Class discussions designed to evaluate students’ understanding of the cultural values with the goal of developing cross-cultural awareness and sensitivity necessary in international business
  • Quizzes/examinations designed to assess students’ ability to recall, critically analyze and apply key concepts and course content
  • Participation as required by instructor to ensure progress in mastering the course content and involvement in collaborative learning projects
