| This course is designed to provide updated skills training for law enforcement officers enforcing the provisions of 11550 H & S code. The course fulfills the Commission on P.O.S.T. two year, twenty-four hour training requirement for advanced officer training. The course will emphasize public safety when handling incidents involving explosive devices. 20 hours lecture and 4 hours laboratory. | ||||

1. Demonstrate an understanding of the elements required to arrest an individual under the influence of a controlled substance. 2. Demonstrate the proficiency necessary to process an individual arrested for being under the influence of a controlled substance. 3. Analyze recent court case decisions and changes in the law. 4. Describe the safety requirements necessary for handling explosive devices. |

COURSE CONTENT |

METHODS OF INSTRUCTION Methods of instruction used to achieve student learning outcomes may include, but are not limited to: |

|
• Utilizing problem solving activities that allow for demonstrating required skills and knowledge of interrogations and interviews of narcotics suspects, case decisions and law changes, handling of explosive devices, and clinical laboratory screening of individuals under the influence. |

METHODS OF EVALUATION Students will be evaluated for progress in and/or mastery of learning outcomes by methods of evaluation which may include, but are not limited to: |
||||
|
• Computational and writing assignments, including homework and reports, to measure student learning progress on analyzing recent court case decisions and changes in the law, and understanding the elements required to arrest and process an individual under the influence of a controlled substance. |
