COURSE DESCRIPTION

67 Toyota Fuel Systems II Units: 3.00
 
Prerequisite(s): AUT 62: Toyota Fuel Systems I and AUT 63: Toyota Elec Sys Mastery

Advisory: AUT 51A
Basic theory, system construction and operation of Toyota Electronic Fuel Injection, and Electronic Computer Control systems. Major emphasis placed upon Computer Command theory, operation and construction. Diagnosis of related components, service adjustments and use of special service tools included. 36 hours lecture and 54 hours laboratory.
 
SHORT DESCRIPTION FOR CLASS SCHEDULE

An introduction to basic theory, construction and diagnosis of Toyota Fuel Injection and Computer Control systems.
 
ADVISORY ENTRY SKILLS
Before entering the course, students will be able to:

  1. Describe the basic theory of operation of the modern automobile.

  2. Identify the components of major automotive systems and explain the functions of each.

  3. Perform minor maintenance and service on the automobile.

  4. Identify and describe the Toyota-approved sequence of procedures used for vehicle problem diagnosis: locate, isolate, inspect and repair to manufacturer’s specifications, make necessary adjustments.

  5. Use standard Toyota-approved procedures to troubleshoot, evaluate and diagnose the repair of Toyota electrical systems.

  6. Use Toyota-approved procedures to remove and rebuild Toyota engine starters and alternators.

  7. Properly use specialized test equipment and tools.

  8. Inspect Toyota ignition & electrical system to troubleshoot, diagnose and evaluate system problems.

  9. Perform Toyota-prescribed testing sequences using recommended test equipment and procedures.

  10. Identify hazards in the workplace and demonstrate safe work practice.

STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES
Upon successful completion of the course, students should be able to:

Read and interpret an electrical wiring diagram. - Identify and
locate components; - Isolate circuits.

Properly use a Volt-Ohm Meter.

Apply standard Toyota-recommended procedures to diagnose,
remove and repair fuel injection and computer control system
components to manufacturer specification.

Reassemble and make all necessary adjustments and tests for
satisfactory operation of fuel injection and computer control
system component.

METHODS OF INSTRUCTION
Methods of instruction used to achieve student learning outcomes may include, but are not limited to:

  • Presenting lectures and demonstrations by instructor or guests on Toyota fuel injection and computer control systems and repair procedures.
  • Utilizing multi-media presentations to demonstrate and simulate complex concepts and    
    procedures.
  • Assigning small group and individual class exercises that enable students to work cooperatively as a team to analyze Toyota fuel injection and computer control problems under the supervision and guidance of the instructor.
  • Assigning special projects outside of class that expose students to environments, tools and methods not available in class.  The projects may include field trips or research projects.
  • Assigning reading outside of textbook material; these may include industry publications, trade magazines, product specifications or equipment manuals.
 
METHODS OF EVALUATION
Students will be evaluated for progress in and/or mastery of learning outcomes by methods of evaluation which may include, but are not limited to:

  • Hands-on problem-solving exercises that demonstrate students’ ability to use Toyota-approved methods and tools to make diagnoses and repair of fuel injection and computer control systems.
  • Practical exercises and laboratory assignments to demonstrate students’ comprehension and application of procedures and techniques.
  • Tests and quizzes that regularly assess students’ comprehension of concepts and industry-specific language.
  • Final applied project that demonstrates students’ proficiency in making repairs to Toyota fuel injection and computer control systems.
