COURSE DESCRIPTION

65B Toyota Automatic Trans Units: 3.00
 
Prerequisite(s): AUT 61: Intro to Toyota Service
An introduction to theory and principles of Toyota automatic transmissions/transaxles. Emphasis placed on problem diagnosis, troubleshooting, measurements and drivability. 45 hours lecture and 27 hours laboratory.
 
SHORT DESCRIPTION FOR CLASS SCHEDULE

An introduction to theory, construction and repair of Toyota automatic transmissions/transaxles.
 
ADVISORY ENTRY SKILLS
Before entering the course, students will be able to:

  1. Identify hazards in the workplace and demonstrate safe work practices.

  2. Diagnose and solve simple problems related to automotive malfunctions using Toyota-standard diagnostic procedures.

  3. Perform a new vehicle pre-delivery inspection.

  4. Describe Toyota vehicle systems operation to component function.

  5. Properly use specialized test equipment and tools.

STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES
Upon successful completion of the course, students should be able to:

Identify hazards in the workplace and demonstrate safe work
practices.

Use Toyota-recommended procedures and equipment to
troubleshoot, diagnose and repair Toyota automatic transmissions
and transaxles.

Use Toyota-recommended procedures and equipment to make
adjustments to automatic transmissions and transaxles and
administer tests for their operation, and servicing.

Use Toyota-recommended procedures to remove, disassemble
and rebuild automatic transmissions an transaxles.

Properly use specialized test equipment and tools.

METHODS OF INSTRUCTION
Methods of instruction used to achieve student learning outcomes may include, but are not limited to:

  • Presenting lectures and demonstrations by instructor or guests on Toyota automatic transmissions and transaxles.
  • Utilizing multi-media presentations to demonstrate and simulate complex concepts and procedures.
  • Assigning small group and individual class exercises that enable students to work cooperatively as a team to analyze problems with Toyota automatic transmissions/transaxles under the supervision and guidance of the instructor.
  • Assigning special projects outside of class that expose students to environments, tools and methods not available in class.  The projects may include field trips or research projects.
  • Assigning reading outside of textbook material; these may include industry publications, trade magazines, product specifications or equipment manuals.
 
METHODS OF EVALUATION
Students will be evaluated for progress in and/or mastery of learning outcomes by methods of evaluation which may include, but are not limited to:

  • Hands-on problem-solving exercises that demonstrate students’ ability to solve problems related to Toyota automatic transmissions and transaxles function.
  • Practical exercises and laboratory assignments to demonstrate students’ comprehension and application of procedures and techniques.
  • Tests and quizzes that regularly assess students’ comprehension of concepts and industry-specific language.
  • Final applied project that demonstrates students’ proficiency in using Toyota-recommended procedures and equipment to troubleshoot, diagnose and repair Toyota automatic transmissions and transaxles.
