COURSE DESCRIPTION

801 Introduction to Basic Welding Processes OAW, SMAW, GTAW, FCAW Units:
 
Prerequisite: None.
 
This course is designed to emphasize practical training, procedures, operations, skills, tools, techniques and knowledge that will enable a student to obtain or improve skills in the various welding processes. The course includes the learning and use of welding equipment and theory. 54 hours laboratory.

STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES
Upon successful completion of the course, students should be able to:

To habituate good housekeeping and safety practices necessary for successful employment in the welding industry. training in the safety, theory, and practical operations as applied to shielded Metal Arc (SMAW), Oxyacetylene (OAW), Gas Tungsten Arch Welding (GTAW), and Flux-Core Arc Welding (FCAW). Train to be aware of and to observe all safety rules

  4.  Review and Practice Arc Welding
  5.  Review and Practice MIG & TIG Welding
  6.  Destructive and Non-destructive Testing of Materials
  7.  Variable Factors in Welding
  8.  Welding of Ferrous and Non-ferrous Alloys

Students are also assigned reading, writing and other outside assignments equivalent to two hours per one hour lecture.
