STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES
Upon successful completion of the course, students should be able to:
|
- Perform advanced repertoire for their performance medium.
- Plan and execute a recital of 20-25 minutes using piano accompaniment, if appropriate, and/or chamber group accompaniment, if appropriate.
- Prepare a program, program notes or other materials related to the recital repertoire in cooperation with the instructor or recital coordinator.

- Setting the date and securing the venue
- Recital dress and decorum
- Memorization of repertoire, if required
- Rehearsal techniques with and without an accompanying individual or group

- Preparation of program and program notes
- Recital preparation techniques
- Recital survival techniques

METHODS OF INSTRUCTION
Methods of instruction used to achieve student learning outcomes may include, but are not limited to:
|
- Conduct discussions/demonstrations in order to introduce material to students so they may gain knowledge in the subject area of recital performance.
- Show videos/films/CD’s in order for students to hear and view masters of their instrument so that they will be better prepared to discuss and demonstrate appropriate recital performance techniques.
- Conduct individual conferences/performances in order to discuss student progress and offer improvement of learning for all of the student learning outcomes.
- Invite guest lecturers to class so that students will have the opportunity to learn course topics from artists well-known in the field of music and performance.
- Create public performance opportunities so that students may have a venue to demonstrate their knowledge and skills in overall recital performance.

METHODS OF EVALUATION
Students will be evaluated for progress in and/or mastery of learning outcomes by methods of evaluation which may include, but are not limited to:
|
- Oral presentations/performances designed to evaluate overall student learning of recital literature and techniques.
- Written reports/presentations designed to evaluate the individual student’s cognition of course topics.
- Quizzes/examinations designed to evaluate student progress and knowledge in course topics.
- Class and individual projects designed to evaluate the students’ recall of recital performance technique on his or her instrument.
- Participation and regular attendance designed to monitor student involvement and learning of the student outcomes on a regular basis.
- Final examination performance designed to evaluate student progress of the learning outcomes for the entire semester.

All materials used in this course will be periodically reviewed to ensure that they are appropriate for college level instruction. Possible texts include:

- Repertoire assigned according to level of performance capabilities of the individual student. Usually preparation for this recital would begin prior to the actual semester of the performance as part of instruction in Music 39: Applied Music. The recital will be presented in conjunction with applied music study.
