Limitation on Enrollment: Audition by instructor
A select choir dedicated to the study, rehearsal, and public performance of variety of men’s ensemble literature. May be taken a total of four times. 54 hours laboratory.

STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES
Upon successful completion of the course, students should be able to:

  1. Distinguish and analyze vocal chamber music skills, including correct balance, blend, diction, intonation, and vocal technique.
  2. Review a variety of men’s ensemble literature to include both sacred and secular genres.
  3. Demonstrate the underlying concepts of expressive singing, including correct posture, stage presence and proper breathing techniques.
  4. Evaluate and discuss the aesthetic characteristics of men’s ensemble literature.

  4. More advance principles of vocal technique
  5. Performance skills associated with small ensemble singing
  6. Discussion of poise and the elements of poise
  7. Diction
  8. Musical notation and terminology
  9. International Phonetic Alphabet for correct pronunciation
  10. Recognize and distinguish aesthetic qualities in vocal music
 
METHODS OF INSTRUCTION
Methods of instruction used to achieve student learning outcomes may include, but are not limited to:

  • Present class lectures/discussions/demonstrations in order to introduce material to students so they may gain knowledge in the subject area of men’s ensemble music.
  • Show videos/films/CD’s in order for students to hear and view men singers so that they will be better prepared to discuss and demonstrate styles of chamber choir music.
  • Conduct individual conferences/performances in order to discuss student progress and offer improvement of learning for all of the student learning outcomes.
  • Develop and assign class exercises such as vocal warm-ups, scales, sight-reading, rhythmic figures and vocal styles to prepare students to successfully demonstrate proper men’s ensemble technique.
  • Create and assign pair and small group activities such as duets, trios and quartets in order for students to become more independent as singers of men’s ensemble literature.
  • Invite guest lecturers to class so that students will have the opportunity to learn course topics from artists well-known in the field of men’s ensemble music.
  • Create public performance opportunities so that students may have a venue to demonstrate their knowledge and skills in men’s ensemble music.
 
METHODS OF EVALUATION
Students will be evaluated for progress in and/or mastery of learning outcomes by methods of evaluation which may include, but are not limited to:

  • Oral reports/presentations/performances designed to evaluate overall student learning of men’s ensemble literature.
  • Oral presentations designed to evaluate the individual student’s cognition of course topics.
  • Quizzes/examinations designed to evaluate student progress and knowledge in course topics.
  • Class and individual projects designed to evaluate the students’ recall of men’s ensemble music literature on an individual basis.
  • Participation and regular attendance designed to monitor student involvement and learning of the student outcomes on a regular basis.
  • Final examination designed to evaluate student progress of the learning outcomes for the entire semester.
