30 Fashion Merchandising Units: 3.00
 
Prerequisite: None.
 
An in-depth study of the fashion merchandising field; emphasis on development and growth of fashion merchandising; retail and vendor methods of operation and distribution; the influence of promotion, advertising, and publicity on consumer demand. Examination of current trends. Career opportunities that exist in the fashion field. 54 hours lecture.

Studies the fashion merchandising field in depth; current trends, retail and vendor methods of operations.

STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES
Upon successful completion of the course, students should be able to:

  1. Analyze the application of the marketing concept to various fashion establishments.
  2. Explain the roll of fashion establishments in our society and economy and to develop an awareness of the career opportunities offered in the field of fashion merchandising.
  3. Explain the use of technical fashion terms and to develop and apply human relations skills, work habits, and attitudes to the fashion merchandising field.
  4. Analyze local, regional, and international fashion establishments, both producer, vendors, and resalers (wholesale, retail) and to identify merchandising plans for them.

METHODS OF INSTRUCTION
Methods of instruction used to achieve student learning outcomes may include, but are not limited to:

In addition to the above, guest speakers from the fashion merchandising field will be utilized as well as fashion publications, fashion news articles and current trade publications to underscore the importance of current events in the fashion field.

Students will be evaluated for progress in and/or mastery of learning outcomes by methods of evaluation which may include, but are not limited to:
