This course examines the forces influencing employee development through various methods such as training, strategic thinking, needs assessments, training evaluation, learning theories, e-learning and career development. 54 hours lecture.

STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES
Upon successful completion of the course, students should be able to:

- Understand the role of training and development, along with key influences that impact this function within human resources management.
- Understand the role of training and its history and impact through history, including theories, including various methods such as e-learning, traditional training and computer aided training.
- Analyze the various aspect of training as they relate to employee performance, such as measuring outcomes of training as they relate to employee job descriptions and responsibilities.
- Assess training evaluation methods and return on investment from various training programs within the context of student learning and application
- Compare the various training, development and career enhancement techniques in order to achieve optimum business and employee development results.
- Design a training program, based on employee and employer needs, that enhances the success of the organization and/or company.
- Assess the importance of career development, career development systems, and the role of human resources professionals in career management within an organization.

METHODS OF INSTRUCTION
Methods of instruction used to achieve student learning outcomes may include, but are not limited to:
|
|
- Class lectures/discussions in order to assist students in achieving the learning outcomes by reviewing relevant course content.
- Videos/films/slides/audio tapes in order give the student a better feeling of exposure to activities within the international logistics industry than may be possible by lectures/discussions.
- Pair and small group activities such as preparing challenging discussion questions for other groups. A competition format may be used in this process. This is done in order to help students achieve outcomes by stimulating individual participation in group activities.
- Guest lecturers to class in order to bring current industry experience directly into the classroom and help students attain objectives through direct interface with active industry experts.
- Web-based/web-enhanced tasks and activities in order to assist the student in achieving learning objectives by offering opportunities to interact with other students online, while also providing individualized learning opportunities.
- Instruction may take the form of online, hybrid, TV or other distance learning format

METHODS OF EVALUATION
Students will be evaluated for progress in and/or mastery of learning outcomes by methods of evaluation which may include, but are not limited to:

|
- Oral reports/presentations/performances designed to allow the student to verbally demonstrate individual achievement of specific learning outcomes.
- Written reports/presentations designed to provide the student an opportunity to demonstrate in writing a mastery of individual learning outcomes.
- Quizzes and examinations designed to determine the students level of knowledge related to course content required for achievement of learning outcomes
- Class and individual projects designed to encourage alternative and creative methods for the student to demonstrate achievement of learning outcomes or share knowledge or experience working with course content.
