For those who are in management, preparing for a potential promotion or interested in the management process. Includes the primary functions of planning, organizing, controlling, and leading as well as related skills such as team development, motivation and communication techniques, and quality management. Also, social responsibility and a global perspective are emphasized. 54 hours lecture.

Upon successful completion of the course, students should be able to:

- Demonstrate an understanding of the planning, organizing, leading and controlling functions of management and apply these concepts and their underlying approaches and principles in the analysis of case studies.
- Describe, discuss and apply to management scenarios or case studies various aspects of planning to building organization success of entrepreneurial enterprises, small business, national and international organizations.
- Describe, discuss, and identify application strategies of basic management skills in team development, communication. motivational techniques, and ethics to management situations.
- Compare and contrast historical applications of management theory with applications in current business, industrial and public service organizations.

Methods of instruction used to achieve student learning outcomes may include, but are not limited to:

- Presentation of lectures and discussions management topics Guest writers/lecturers invited to class to discuss topics on creativity and the imagination
- Presentation, discussion, and examination of case studies from various companies and application exercises to build depth of understanding and analytical skill.
- Showing films, videos, slides, distributing handouts, and/or using electronic or computer-based media in order to reinforce understanding of concepts related to planning, organizing, leading, controlling and other topics in management.
- Cooperative/collaborative learning tasks and activities such as small group or paired activities to explore and identify appropriate methods and strategies for managerial decision-making.
- Computer-assisted and/or web-enhanced instruction which reinforces the course content
- Develop and assign tasks or activities such as written or oral presentations in order to assess student learning of and ability to apply management concepts to management decision-making situations.

METHODS OF EVALUATION
Students will be evaluated for progress in and/or mastery of learning outcomes by methods of evaluation which may include, but are not limited to:

- Quizzes, exams and class participation designed to evaluated and assess student proficiencies in the subject matter and assess learning outcomes.
- Individual, small group or paired exercises designed to evaluate student skills in analyzing various management situations and challenges.
- Questions on topics and content designed to evaluate students’ understanding of the key approaches to management.
- Individual web projects designed to assess student proficiency in achieving student learning outcomes.
- Individual or class projects, written or oral, designed to evaluate the application management concepts to business settings.
- Participation and regular attendance as required by instructor to ensure progress in mastering the course content and participation in collaborative learning projects.
- Final examination designed to assess students’ mastery of the essential concepts explored in the course.
