In addition, study skills, skimming and scanning techniques, and vocabulary development are included.

Course Goals
Course Goals General Goals: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
1. Develop capacities and habits which lead to reading more rapidly, given particular reading purposes and difficulties in material.
2. Develop comprehension skills that result in more critical and perceptive reading, and greater recall of what is read.
3. Develop a stronger reading vocabulary which underlies both rate and comprehension.
4. Develop a greater appreciation for reading and literature, resulting in more and better reading.
Course Objectives
Course Objectives Specific Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
1. 1. Analyze one's own reading characteristics and adjust those elements that interfere with speed. 2. Analyze one's own reading characteristics and adjust those elements that interfere wtih comprehension. 3. Correctly identify the physical elements which affect the ability to read rapidly. 4. Demonstrate the ability to employ the technical elements of rapid and efficient reading by adjusting physical elements to improve one's reading efficiency. 5. Apply these elements to a variety of reading materials. 6. Demonstrate an ability to acquire and process a reading vocabulary.

Course Outcomes
  1. Outcome:Upon successful completion of the course the student will increase his reading rate, which includes both speed and comprehension, by 100%. Upon successful completion of the course, the student will increase his reading vocabulary by 50%.
    Assessment:The student's reading rate will be assessed by comparing a pre-test with a post test. The student's reading vocabulary will be assessed by comparing his/her pre-test with a post test.

Course Methods of Evaluation A student's evaluation will be based on a required final examination and multiple measures of performance including critical thinking. These methods may include, but are not limited to the following.
Students will be graded by examinations which can include reading for speed and comprehension, recognizing vocabulary, establishing thesis statements for articles, writing essay questions on techniques and other assignments as established by the instructor. Examinations will include a midterm and final.
