100 Tutor Training .5 hour lecture, 1.5 hours lab, 1 unit Credit/No Credit Only Advisory: English 51 and English 56 and Mathematics 32, each with a grade of "C" or better, or equivalent, or Assessment Skill Levels W5, R5 and M20. Limitation on Enrollment: Student must have completed a minimum of 12 units of college credit with an accumulated grade point average of 3.0 or better in subject area he/she will tutor. This course prepares college-level students for tutoring adult/college students. Student trainees learn about tutoring methods as well as how to use appropriate written and mediated instructional materials. The course includes supervised tutoring practice. INDIS 320 Introduction to Tutor Training 1 Unit Advisory: A grade of “B” or better in the course the student will serve as a tutor. Course Transferable to CSU Hours: 18 hours LEC This course is offered in coordination with the American River College Tutorial Services Program. It is designed to train students to become effective tutors.

5. Demonstrate the aspects of interpersonal relationships and approaches to working with the tutee.

Assignments: Students will observe other students role play a tutoring session and will evaluate the observed session in terms of the Tutoring Cycle. Students will develop practice points for the observed role players to help them improve their tutoring techniques.

Course Methods of Evaluation A student's evaluation will be based on a required final examination and multiple measures of performance including critical thinking. These methods may include, but are not limited to the following.
The student will be graded on class participation, quizzes, a final examination, and other assignments as established by the instructor. At least one method will be used which will require the student to demonstrate critical thinking as evidenced through writing, and/or problem-solving.
