Learning Outcomes Page in Course Checklist on Curricunet

  1. Log on to Curricunet: www.curricunet.com/Chaffey
  2. Down the left column towards the bottom, click on Search courses
  3. Select the course you would like to enter SLOs in. IMPORTANT: You will only be able to enter SLOs into a course to which you have already been designated to be either the “originator” or a “co-contributor.” If you are having trouble here – please call Melissa in the Curriculum Office – x 6967
  4. Once your course has been selected, please click on the pencil icon.
  5. This next screen should display the course checklist in the upper right corner of the screen.
  6. Click on the Learning outcomes option (it should be in blue writing).
  7. Select your Core Competency. We have 4 Core Competencies which serve at the “institutional SLOs” – this is your call. Select just one or all four – however, please remember that you will be addressing these with your course assessments at some point. Click the SAVE button.
  8. Next, select program SLOs. As of this writing (03/11/10), you will select your program SLO (s) from what was entered into PSR last year. To log on to PSR, please go  to www.curricunet.com/Chaffey_reviews . Log in the same way you logged into Curricunet. Look down the left column – midway for “program Reviews) – click on this link and then locate your program alphabetically. Click on the WR (word report) icon, scroll down, look through your program SLOs and select one which might speak to the Core Competency you just selected, but which also could be used to speak specifically to a course SLO. Copy and paste this program SLO back into your Learning Outcome page for your program SLO. Click Save.
  9. Now select course SLO and here is the template language many have been using to get started: Upon successfully completing (course name and #), (please define what “successfully completed” means to you – most folks are going with “grade “C” or higher” ) students will (pull a strand of the wording from that program SLO you just selected) + (specific course content from this course – look through your listing of Content in the COR if you get stuck).

This approach gives you a perfectly ALIGNED set of SLOs, from Core Competency down through course level. Please consult the SLO/AUO Handbook, http://www1.chaffey.edu/slo/resources/SLO_handbook.pdf  ( p. 7)  as to read why this is important to our Chaffey College approach to SLOs and assessments.

Recent News

DID YOU KNOW…that you do not have to launch a modification when entering or “tweaking” your course SLOs? SLO material does not go through the Curriculum Committee for approval – you can add or modify your SLO material at will, without needing to hit that “AUDIT” button.

ALSO: Please remember that the SLOs do not print out on the word report of the Course Outline of Record (COR). The elements in the COR are mandates by Title 5. SLOs are NOT mandated by Title 5, but, rather, are suggested by the accrediting body, ACCJC, to be attached to the COR.
